System Requirements
It is recommended that the system is installed on a 300Mhz Pentium II
or better, with at least 64MB RAM.BASIS occupies approximately 110MB of disk space and
requires a further 100MB for temporary working files and the Windows paging file. It requires Windows 95/98, and
ArcView GIS version
3.2. It will not work with ArcView 3.1.
Installation
BASIS is provided on a CD, as a ZIP file. This should be copied onto
your hard disk, and the files contained in the archive then extracted into a temporary
directory such as c:\temp, using WinZip or its
equivalent, by double clicking on the ZIP file in Explorer. Once these files are
extracted, use Explorer to navigate to the temporary directory, double click on the file setup.exe, and follow the instructions that
appear. By default the system is installed in the directory c:\basis.
A list of installed files is given in the Appendix. A backup
set of these is provided on the Installation CD, for security, and should only be used to
replace damaged or accidentally deleted files. BASIS will only work with the directory
structure provided, so be sure to put any replacement files in the correct directories.
The default installation includes a full set of survey data
from 1987 to early 1999 that has been converted to the format BASIS uses the raw
data from which these files are derived is supplied on a separate CD. If you wish to
re-import any of these files, or incorporate new data produced after BASIS has been
installed, an import utility is provided, which will work only if BASIS is installed on
the same machine as the raw survey data you want to import.
